SU/’Nova: My Uninformed, Ill-Thought Out Postgame Musings

- Scoop, buddy, pal. What’s going on? Three straight lackluster performances and this was the most lackluster-est of them all.
- Welcome back, Mr. Joseph. Quite a performance.
- Brandon had a pretty good game. He seems to be finding his shot. But still plenty of bad decisions and unforced errors. Did you see that pass into the 2nd row in the first half? Yikes.
- Boeheim is always reluctant to adjust a defense for a team that is shooting hot from beyond the arc, preferring to rely on the law of averages. I usually resist people’s call for him to change it up and go man to man. But what is the breaking point? The D simply wasn’t extending to deny ‘Nova shots. Triche was down in his stance in several instances giving the shooter virtually uncontested shots.
- CJ Fair + James Southerland = 1 rebound. That ain’t gonna cut it.
- Obviously Nova’s performance at the line was killer. But ‘Cuse only got 12 attempts and only got 15 against Pitt.
- In four years, we just have not figured out Corey Fisher. Going back thru his career, I see that he scored 16, 14, 16, 14, 15 and 21 points (his first game against us). That’s Scottie Reynolds-esque.
- What’s the deal with Fab? And I don’t mean his performing, I mean his role. What does Boeheim realistically expect from him and how does that work into the game plan?
- Next five games: Seton Hall, at Marquette, at South Florida, at UConn, Georgetown. Very possible to get 4 of 5 and a national championship contender would get all 5. But Marquette scares me and UConn is obviously a tough, tough game.
- Based on the last two performances, it seems like a Big East Championship is out of the question. I don’t see Pitt and/or ‘Nova slipping too many more times. A top seed in the BET is the goal and I am willing to bet Syracuse will be watching, not playing, day 1 of the BET.
